There is no other term for it, but OUTRAGEOUS!!! Monsanto Company sold a new soy bean seed engineered to resist the impact of a powerful herbicide not yet legal to use, called dicamba. Farmers in Arkansa and Missouri used the seed and then sprayed dicamba and it has caused extensive damage to farmers on adjoining lands who did not use the new genetically modified seed. The harmed farmers are crying foul to their Commissioners of Agriculture, but the fines for violation are so low they are not stopping the offending farmers from using the herbicide. Monsanto is saying they told farmers not to use dicamba, but wanted the farmers to have other traits engineered into their new seed. Despite the claim of good intention, it appears to us that corporate greed and a disregard for the needs of others is at work here. We hope there is a major price to pay by Monsanto, which is a company that never seems to care what the world thinks of it. It reveals the arrogance that emerges from a culture in which profits trump all other values, including the rule of law.
